Simplified in the Heian period from the man'yōgana kanji 毛.

- The [mo] phoneme, typically in words of non-Japanese origin.
- The thirty-fifth character in the gojūon ordering of katakana. The previous character is メ and the next character is ヤ. The equivalent hiragana character is も.
