Etymology [edit]

From English remote.

Adjective [edit]

リモート (な-na inflection, romaji rimōto)

  1. remote; not near

Noun [edit]

リモート (romaji rimōto)

  1. a remote thing
  2. (computing) the remote system, server, computer, or device: not local

Usage notes [edit]

This term is generally used in compounds, such as リモートスイッチ (remote switch) or リモートコントロール (remote control), or in technical contexts, such as リモートのホスト ("remote host") or ローカルとリモートの ("difference between the local and remote [hosts]"). When used attributively, リモート can be followed by the attributive particle  (na) as a regular na-type adjective, but the more common pattern is to add the possessive particle  (no) as is normal after nouns.
