Etymology[edit]

  • Borrowed from Min Nan (POJ hang) to heat up. Because is hōng in Mandarin, the character (hāng) is frequently used as a substitute. However, does not carry the same root meaning as , which leads to confusion. Therefore, the phonetic symbols ㄏㄤ are often used instead.
