Etymology[edit]

From the presence of three rivers in the former province: (おと)(がわ) (Otogawa), (とよ)(かわ) (Toyokawa), and ()(はぎ)(がわ) (Yahagigawa).[1] The name 三川 (Mikawa) is included in the Kojiki.
