Hyōgaiji
kun’yomi

Etymology[edit]

Literally a compound of (kushi, skewer) +‎ (saba, mackerel).

A second sense arose out of a kind of pronunciation spelling, punning off of the slang senses of (kushi, proxy) from a clipping of プロクシー (purokushī, proxy), and (saba, server) as a sort of rebus of サーバー (sābā, server).

Pronunciation[edit]
