- A sweet brownish-black or bluish-black pill used in traditional Chinese medicine "to warm the kidney and invigorate the marrow, to tonify qi and nourish yin, and to promote the growth of blood and arrest bleeding, when indicated by aplastic anemia, thrombocytopenia, myelodysplastic syndrome, injuries of the marrow, leukopenia due to radiotherapy or chemotherapy, deficiency of kidney-yin or insufficiency of qi and blood".
