Compound of 大 (tai, “big”) +‎ した (shita, “did, done”), the perfective of する (suru, “to do”), used here to indicate a state as opposed to an action.

Adjective

1. big, quite, very great

   富士山は大した山だよ。

   ふじさんはたいしたやまだよ。
   Fuji-san wa taishita yama da yo.

   Mount Fuji is really quite a mountain.

   こんなのは、大した事ではない。

   こんなのは、たいしたことではない。
   Konna no wa taishita koto de wa nai.

   These things are no big deal.

Usage notes

Although this is formed using した, the perfective or past-tense of する, the imperfective or present tense form *大する (*taisuru) is not used.
