There is some disagreement among dictionaries regarding which is the main reading.

• The Kokugo Dai Jiten, Dajisen, and Daijirin all list ansokunichi as the main reading, with ansokujitsu and ansokubi as alternatives.
• The Shin Meikai fifth edition lists ansokubi as the main reading, with ansokujitsu as an alternative.
• The NHK Hatsuon Akusento Jiten lists ansokubi as the only reading.

The Kokugo Dai Jiten says Christians today use ansokunichi, although Catholics used ansokujitsu in the past.
