Phono-semantic compound (形聲): semantic  (speech) + phonetic  – speak an acknowledgment. Note that (endure, bear, suffer) has sense of “an undesired (unpleasant) experience”, hence shades of meaning also used in “recognize (an undesirable fact)”.
