Etymology[edit]
Literally "red hill", from 赤 (aka, “red”) and 坂 (saka, “hill”). The placename does not refer to any known specific hill, and may be reduced from an earlier 茜坂 (akanesaka, “madder hill”, literally “red root hill”).
