Sino-Korean word from 月曜日, from  (“moon”) and 曜日 (“day of the week”) ., from Latin dies lunae (“moon's day”), through Indian astrology in the fifth century as Sanskrit somāha (soma, “moon”) into Buddhist astrology in the eighth century as 月曜日 (, “moon”).
