Etymology 1[edit]

First attested in the Yongbi eocheonga (龍飛御天歌 / 용비어천가), 1447, as 우리 (Yale: wuli). Starostin compared this with Proto-Turkic *bi-ŕ, *bẹ- (we) (Turkish biz), and derived this word from Proto-Altaic *bĭ̀, with irregular loss of initial b-.
