Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Two possibilities exist: (1) from Proto-Indo-European *-eiyo- composite suffix, made of *-en(o)- + *-iyo- or its *-niyo- variant with a preceding -i vowel; (2) from the suffix -ուն (-un) +‎ (-i).
