Romanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Probably from a Vulgar Latin *-idiat or *-izat, form of the suffix *-idiāre or *-izāre, ultimately from Ancient Greek -ίζειν (-ízein), used as an infix in Romanian conjugated forms of verbs. See -ez.

Suffix[edit]

-ează

  1. used with a stem to form the third-person singular present and third-person plural present of some -a (first conjugation) verbs. E.g. lucrează from lucra, durează from dura, frânează from frâna, vânează from vâna.
