Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Finnic *-t'ën. Related to Karelian -ten and Veps -te. Originally from an instructive form, probably by analogy of instructive forms of the second infinitive forms of verbs (such as arvata > arvaten, whence arvatenkin with an additional clitic).
