Hi, I'm CodeCat! I've been editing Wiktionary since 2007, and I was made an [[WT:Administrators|administrator]] in 2010.

I am active on a variety of languages, which you can see listed here to the right. I speak them to various degrees, but I can have a (very) basic text conversation in all of them, as long as I have Wiktionary nearby to look things up!

I also work a lot with templates on Wiktionary, they are often very useful if they can be used right. If you have a template issue I might be able help you with it. Please ask in my talk page and I'll see what I can do for you.

I also have a cute <s>kitty</s> bot that I call [[User:MewBot|MewBot]]. She helps me do things that are too hard for me to do alone, like automatically creating entries for inflected forms of verbs, adjectives and such. MewBot has a user page too, so take a look there to see what can be done. If you need some inflection entries done, give the kitty a [[User:MewBot/feedme|cheezburger]] and maybe she'll do it for you. ;)

==What you can do to help Wiktionary get even better==
These are some things that I try to do for the languages I edit. Of course I can't do them all, all the time, but they are good things to work on and improve. If you feel like lending a hand, you could try improving in one of these areas too.

* Put declension and conjugation templates on entries that lack/need them.
* Provide etymology where you can, especially for compounds, using {{temp|compound}}, {{temp|prefix}}, {{temp|suffix}} and such.
* Don't use the pagename in bold (like <tt><nowiki>'''pagename'''</nowiki></tt>) on the headword line if you can. If you see it like that in an existing entry, you should probably replace it with {{temp|head|code|pos}} (replace <tt>code</tt> with the code for the language, like <tt>en</tt> for English, and replace <tt>pos</tt> with the part of speech, such as <tt>adjective</tt>).
* Use a [[User:MewBot|form-bot]] if there is one! It's the easiest way to make all form-of entries look consistent and to make sure there aren't any missing. You could ask the editors of your favourite language(s) if there is a bot for that language. And if not, maybe you could write one yourself, instead?
* Replace other generic templates (such as {{temp|head}}, {{temp|plural of}} etc.) with language-specific ones if they exist. Most languages have their own headword-line templates, which you can use to provide information specific for that language, such as inflected forms.
* If you see redundant or deprecated templates, you should probably replace them with 'current' versions.
* If an entry has several parts of speech, I like to put the form-of entries at the bottom, so that the most important information comes first. Some people like to order the parts of speech alphabetically, but that doesn't really make sense to me because it might mean the sense that people are most likely to look for is at the bottom.

I really love working on Proto-Germanic, it's interesting to see where words come from and sometimes there are fun surprises. What kind of things would they have said in it? How did it sound?
