From Arabic المدوّر‎ (al-Mudawwar, the round thing)‎, from مُدَوّر (mudawwar, round). The name probably refers to a nearby hill; تل المدوّر‎ (Tal al-Mudawwar, round hill) is a fairly common Arabic placename.
