Cognate with Old Saxon sunnea (true state, emergency, obstacle, excuse, illness), Old High German sunna (truth, valid excuse, justification), Old Norse syn (denial, renunciation), Gothic 𐍃𐌿𐌽𐌾𐌰 (truth).
