Proto-Finnic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Unknown. If from earlier *likša, the word may be connected to Proto-Samic *liškē (surface, skin), with an ancestral meaning "skin, meat, flesh" (which need not have been distinguished in the past). Since no further etymology is known, a borrowing from a substrate has been proposed.[1]

Noun[edit]
