Proto-Germanic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *áyos.

Pronunciation[edit]

Noun[edit]

*aiz n

  1. copper, bronze
  2. ore

Declension[edit]

Was originally a regular z-stem, but the older nominative singular alternant *āz was levelled out in favour of *aiz. This made it indistinguishable from a neuter consonant stem.
