Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Balto-Slavic *bruʔs, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃bʰruHs. Baltic cognate is Lithuanian bruvìs (eyebrow), brùvė (eyebrow). Other Indo-European cognates are Ancient Greek ὀφρύς (ophrús), Sanskrit भ्रू (bhrū) and Proto-Germanic *brūwō.
