Proto-Slavic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Probably ultimately of imitative origin. While formally similar to Proto-Germanic *hūwô (owl), Proto-Celtic *kawannos (owl), Lithuanian nakti-kova (night heron), regular derivation of these words from a common root appears to be phonologically impossible.

Noun[edit]

*sovà f[1][2][3]

  1. owl
