So I added the Bengali column and made some changes to the Hindi column as well. Basically I tried to save space by keeping the Romanization and orthographies on separate lines, and by removing Sanskritized words from the Hindi column. The Swadesh lists are not meant to show all possible translations of the English examples; they are meant to show only the most common translation of the basic concept shown by the English example. Of course, even the English list is bad, considering there are words like "thou" in there, but the "thou"-"you" distinction on this list is simply meant to keep the singular and plural "you"s apart. Anyhow, I took out words from the Hindi column, after checking with my Hindi consultants. Tatsama/Tôtshôm words should be kept out of Hindi/Bengali whenever a commonly-used Tadbhav/Tôdbhôb or borrowed word is more commonly used. Although this makes Hindi and Bengali look less related to some other languages, it is more in line with the philosophy of the Swadesh lists, where only the most basic/commonly heard terms should be included. Oh, also, I left space in the Bengali section for when I have the time to add the orthographic representations of those words. Anyhow, if you have any questions or comments, please leave them either here or on my Talk page. Thanks! --SameerKhan 01:48, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

divide[edit]

I offer divide to indian list and iranian list--Kaiyr (talk) 08:00, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Better if it is done. I started editing for Urdu and took some time. During this time:
  1. I provided all 207 Urdu entries.
  2. Fixed missing Hindi entries.
  3. Provided some Persian entries.
  4. Added some Persian texts where only transliteration was offered.
  5. Added some transliteration to Nepali
  6. Corrected display problems which I arised because entries for Kurdish in some cells are missing and the user did not provide at least syntax for the row, resulting in the problems.

I am terribly surprised how Punjabi and Kurdish people pushed Urdu two position further from what it was when I started editing. --Hindustanilanguage (talk) 08:28, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

split to Appendix:Iranian Swadesh lists and Appendix:Indian Swadesh lists--Kaiyr (talk) 14:36, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The second one should be Appendix:Indo-Aryan Swadesh lists per Category:Indo-Aryan languages, but I see Appendix:Indo-Aryan Swadesh lists already exists and needs cleaning up. —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 16:14, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
