Inflected forms[edit]

I note the previous discussion about not keeping inflected forms. OK, surely there's no point in adding everything along the lines of suo "swamp/provide", suon "of the swamp/I provide", suot "swamps/you provide" etc. But could comparision of verb roots to nouns be taken up still? The ubiquitous -ta/-tä/-a/-ä in the citation form of verbs makes sure there will never be many verb/non-verb matches if only citation forms can be compared. Furthermore, I will argue that the lexemes "swamp" and "to provide" are "more homonymous" than a match that would require matching the infinitiv suffix on a verb to an uninflected noun, adjectiv etc.

Tier 2 of this is "near-similar" words that only differ by, say, a final -s which would mean many inflected forms are going to coincide. Again, no need to list all of them, but I see no harm in noting the relationship in general.

Examples involving consonant gradation I am more hesitant on, since the underlying roots will be different. --Tropylium 13:07, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
