German[edit]

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˈaʊ̯fˌneːmɐ/
  • (file)

Noun[edit]

Aufnehmer m (strong, genitive Aufnehmers, plural Aufnehmer)

  1. (regional, northern and central Germany) a rag or cloth, chiefly one that is attached to a handle in order to mop the floor
    Synonym: Wischlappen

Usage notes[edit]

  • Although the word refers to the cloth itself, it is often used where one would say “mop” in English, i.e. as a pars pro toto for the whole construction of cloth and handle.
