Etymology[edit]

From Ancient Greek καινός (kainós, new) and Rhabditis (the genus of which it was originally believed to be a subgenus), itself from Ancient Greek ῥάβδος (rhábdos, rod) + -ῖτις (-îtis) (feminine form of -ίτης (-ítēs))
