In accordance with the general guidelines, dated is meant to be used where a term or its specified meaning are not commonly used anymore, which have an old-fashioned ring, and are occasionally heard from elderly people or encountered in mid–20th-century works.

As a rule of thumb, this label is to be used for terms and senses that were common before the end of communism in Hungary in 1989. (Compare obsolete and archaic terms in Hungarian.) It can also be used for terms that has since become markedly dated for other reasons, e.g. due to rapid changes in technology (such as rádiótelefon, used in 1998[1] but not much after 2010).
