Category:Suppletion
Definition from Wiktionary, the free dictionary
Instances of suppletion – when different forms of the word are derived from noncognates, such as good/better or cow/bovine.
Strictly, suppletion refers only to inflection – when the two words share the same lexical category, as in good/better (both adjectives, the latter comparative) – though the term is also used more broadly to refer to cases where the words have different lexical categories, as in cow/bovine (noun/adjective).
