Etymology[edit]
Coined by Constantine Samuel Rafinesque from Ancient Greek δῆλος (dêlos, “visible, conspicuous, manifest”) + ὄνυξ (ónux, “claw, nail”), referring to the conspicuously long-clawed petals.[1]
