Medieval style footwear. This pair is of the same type worn during the heyday of the "Great Kilt" or en:Belted plaid, approximately from the late 16th Century to the middle of the 18th Century. Made from a single piece of leather, the shoe is cut according to a pattern (the leftmost shoe in the photo is partially "unfolded" so as to show part of the pattern) and then wrapped around the foot and laced up.

Photo is from the 2005 Skagit Valley Highland Games and is copyright © 2005 by James F. Perry.
