go refers to he or it[1]. cek is a common ending for Czech names, a cognomen similar to ski or ska found commonly at the end of Polish names. cek refers to somebody who came from somewhere else[2]. Of the 20,000 most common surnames in Poland, only 28 end in cek[3]. The Polish name of Gocek may owe its suffix to the proximity of those sharing the name to the Czech border[4].
