From Ancient Greek ελληνιστής (hellenistes) "somebody who speaks Greek", from ελληνίζειν (hellenizein) "to speak Greek, to make Greek, to become Greek, hellenize", from Ancient Greek Έλλην (Hellen) "Greek".
