Etymology[edit]
From Bengali খাগড়াছড়ি (khagṛachoṛi), a compound of খাগড়া (khagoṛa, “reed”) + ছড়ি (choṛi, “river”, from Sanskrit सरित् (sarit, “river, stream”)), referring to the reeds around the banks of the Chengi River, near which the district headquarters are located.
