Rastafarian + -ism, from Amharic ራስተፈሪ (Ras Tafari, “alternative name of Haile Selassie of Ethiopia”), from ራስ (ras, “chief, head”) (from Arabic رأس (ra's)) + ተፈሪ (tafari, “to be feared, fearsome”), from ፈራ (fara, “to fear”)
