Etymology[edit]

Mid-19th century, from French razzia, from Algerian Arabic غزية (ḡazya), from Classical Arabic غَزْوة (ḡazwa, military raid, foray). Adopted with a spelling pronunciation, perhaps after Italian borrowings with -zz- like Skizze or Intermezzo.
