Etymology[edit]

Blend of Romney (Mitt Romney) +‎ healthcare or Medicare and likely influenced by the term ObamaCare. Although the 2006 Massachusetts Law signed by then-governor Mitt Romney predated the 2010 United States Federal Law signed by President Barack Obama, the term RomneyCare was not commonly used until after the term ObamaCare was in wide use.
