From earlier Takhoma (the area south of Seattle), borrowed from Lushootseed təˈkhoʊʔməʔ, təlˈkhoʊʔbəʔ, təloʊʔl (the area surrounding Mount Rainier), from təˡqʷuʔbəʔ (mother of waters) in a direct reference to Mount Rainier.
