Persian[edit]

There's something wrong with the Persian section. ʿomān (the monarchy) and ʿammān (the city) are confused. They probably don't have the same etymology. The Persian Wiktionary appears to be using the word as for the Literary Arabic ʿammān (two uncles), which is not the proper name Amman (the city). --Mahmudmasri (talk) 22:21, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what you mean but the Persian section doesn't include Amman, only Oman. In Persian, it can be written either as امان or عمان as in Arabic, the latter form just borrows the Arabic spelling. BTW, I didn't see shadda/tashdid, it's probably pronounced "amân", according to fa:wiki and Wikipedia. "Uncle" in Persian is عمو ('amu) and they don't have dual forms.--Anatoli (обсудить/вклад) 00:24, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
"One uncle" is ʿamm in Arabic; "two uncles" is ʿammān. The pronunciation in the current page is [ʔomˈmɒn]. For which meaning is this pronunciation? It's like Oman and Amman are mistakenly interchanged. --Mahmudmasri (talk) 01:28, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Please see my changes. Is it better? BTW, what's the gender of Arabic عمان country or city, is it masculine or both masculine and feminine? --Anatoli (обсудить/вклад) 01:45, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know the gender in Literary Arabic, but in Egyptian Arabic, both are feminine. The ambiguity is because there are some words with a different gender in Literary Arabic from dialects. Sudan and Lebanon are masculine in LA while feminine in EA, that's an example. Egypt (miṣr/maṣr) is acceptable as either feminine or masculine in LA, but only feminine in EA.
Are you sure about the Persian عمانی ('Ommâni)? Not with one m?
عمان (ʿammān) pronounced also [ʔoˈmɒn] in Persian?

Oops, I forgot about "'Ommâni". I'm not familiar with Persian IPA, feel free to fix. --Anatoli (обсудить/вклад) 03:12, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I wish I were familiar with IPA in Persian which is not really difficult, as long as we are sure of the formation of the word, which we are unsure of. --Mahmudmasri (talk) 04:56, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nastaliq[edit]

The page's title is incorrectly displayed in the nastaliq script style which is only appropriate for Urdu whereas the whole page is about other languages too. I couldn't find a way to fix that. Please help. --Esperfulmo (talk) 08:49, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
