Homophones[edit]

Are all the homophones listed truly homophones in Japanese? {{attention|ja}} Wyang (talk) 04:59, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Wyang: Yes, they are normally considered homophones. Some say the first consonant of 地 (ぢ) should be different from that of 自 (じ), but they are hardly distinguished by native speakers. To be more precise, 自身 is pronounced じ​しん [jiꜜshin] (Atamadaka - [1]) as opposed to じしん [ji-shin] (Heiban - [0]) of 地震 and others, though. Because accents depend on context and dialects, they are not normally considered as factors deciding homophones in Japanese. Whym (talk) 03:35, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
