This is probably a legitimate Chinese or Japanese compound word though Babelfish doesn't recognize it. I'll check my dictionary tonight. In the meantime the current content is crap that should be deleted. — Hippietrail 11:28, 7 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Hmm well this compound is not in my huge new kanji dictionary nor is it in Jim Breen's WWWJDIC. Yet it has 4,400 Google hits, many in contexts which make it look like a legitimate compound possibly with the reading ばれん (baren).

A passing Japanese friend doesn't recognize it but on reading the context from Google hit announced "it's about 300 years ago".
