Talk:American Thanksgiving

Now I know some of you are going to say "Not more than the sum of its parts!" ... I only have a couple of things in defense of this:

  • The counter-imperialists insist that "American" means "of or pertaining to the Americas" and this is in my experience chiefly opposed to Canadian Thanksgiving
  • The pronunciation is different: when used as a lexeme, and not just American + Thanksgiving, I've always heard it said American THANKSgiving, while the regular name is ThanksGIVing
  • It's still a proper noun even though it has a qualifier to disambiguate it from other Thanksgivings. (I've tried to use quotes that reflect this, e.g. where it is used without the definite article, or when it is used in time constructions as a unit, e.g. "on American Thanksgiving".) —Muke Tever 14:06, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
