This is a derivation from English "Thailand," not Chinese "Taiguo." 71.66.97.228 18:12, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Thái Lan" = 泰 (thái) + 蘭 (lan). 泰蘭 (Tàilán) is an older, full Chinese name for Thailand. Another Sino-Vietnamese word for Thailand matches modern Chinese much closer - "Thái Quốc" = 泰國 (Tàiguó) --Anatoli 21:31, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
