But it isn't just yeast which is dry and active; in fact, as the entry currently states, active dry yeast is inactive in the form in which it is packaged and sold. -- Visviva 05:54, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Think of it as dormant, powdered, "instant" yeast. This is as opposed to the soft wet cakes of yeast that may be purchased. I assume the "active" part of the description was added originally for marketing purposes. After all, who in their right mind would believe that the dry powdered form of yeast is any good, when up until that time any dried out yeast was known to have died? --EncycloPetey 06:12, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
