preserving Etymology extra[edit]

This bit of etymology was removed for some reason. Preserving it here for possible future re-incorporation.--Richardb 15:53, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From Hindi and other Indian languages. It originated from the Cantonese (dialect of Chinese) pronunciation of the character Image:Tea.bmp, which means "tea". The Minnan dialect's pronunciation is the root of the word "tea" in many other languages (including English).

Better etymology needed[edit]

A better etymology is needed for the French term meaning "wine cellar" which is supposedly derived from Occitan. 173.88.246.138 21:14, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
