This etymology is beyond fanciful! Surely "craythur" is just the Irish pronunciation of "creature." Whisky is, if you like, a "creature comfort" -- or else it too is one of God's "craythurs".

Just based on the Greek it's alleged to be cognate with, it's clearly wrong (and distillation doesn't go back to the Iron Age, anyway), so I deleted it. Other dictionaries trace it to some variant of creature. Chuck Entz (talk) 13:45, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
