Where does this definition come from? The dictionaries I have looked at mention people and addresses, but don't mention organisations. 139.165.200.118 18:24, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, how about the Gale directory of publications and broadcast media, The Official museum directory, the American library directory, Research centers directory? Circeus 18:41, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Missing senses?[edit]

Chambers 1908 also has:

  • "a body of directions" (though this might be an archaic way of saying "a list of people's addresses", since "direction" once meant "address")
  • "a guide"
  • "a body of directors"
  • "the Directoire, or French Republican government of 1795-99" (presumably would be Directory with capital D)
