One full month, and original contributor still has not offered any justification. --Connel MacKenzie 04:43, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
The term does not appear in Project Gutenberg's edition of Utopia, casting serious doubt on the claimed connection to Thomas More. Given that Utopia was originally written in Latin, it's possible that this spelling turns up there, but I tend to doubt it. There does, however, appear to be a legitimate medical usage of this term, of eutopia/eutopic in contrast to ectopia/ectopic. See Talk:eutopy for links. With that in mind, it's RFC, not RFD -dmh 18:20, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Fantastic research there, dmh! Looking at this revision, it's definitely a keep. Is there additional cleanup really needed? It seems good to me now. --Connel MacKenzie 05:48, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Great work, definitely a keeper now. Kevin Rector 05:42, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Needs a tidy-up. — Hippietrail 00:18, 3 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I don't understand the irony here, but eutopic is the adjective from eutopia, just at ectopic is the adjective from ectopia. The terms eutopy and ectopy do not exist. (Please prove me wrong?) Dbfirs 20:11, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see an article at w:Cardiac ectopy. There are several other articles that mention it as well: Wikipedia search ectopy. —Stephen 20:33, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it seems that the mis-spelling (or back-formation of noun from adjective) is surprisingly common. There are even three books that use eutopy instead of eutopia. Actually, I can see a better argument for eutopy, to distinguish from Eutopia (and Utopia), so I'm beginning to change my mind. Do you think they are primarily mis-spellings? Dbfirs 20:45, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t think they are misspellings. I am not a doctor, but even so, I don’t think anyone would misspell eutopia as eutopy. Misspellings would be like "utopia", "youtopia", "Utoepia", "yewtopia", "yootopia". If eutopy isn’t a real word, then it would be a neologism, not a misspelling (IMO). —Stephen 20:50, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, I meant "neologism by mistake", but we don't have a template for this, so I've removed the misspelling template from this entry and from ectopy. Neither word is in the 2008 OED, but perhaps they will add them when they see them here? Dbfirs 21:41, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
