Pronunciation discussion 1[edit]

I hear grimace pronounced where it sounds like

   'grim miss

with the accent on the first syllable.

Almost all dictionaries describe the pronunciation as

    gri 'mace

with the accent on the second syllable.

Which is correct? Does frequent mispronunciation constitute a new acceptable standard?

It would be helpful for the Wiktionary to include pronunciations for its entries. IPA would be a good format to provide pronunciations.

Bad Writing[edit]

The English definition is so clunkily written that it's difficult to parse. Furthermore it references relatively uncommon where there are more common alternatives, which just seems like a bad idea. "A distortion of the countenance, whether habitual, from affectation, or momentary and occasional, to express some feeling, as contempt, disapprobation, complacency, etc.; a smirk; a made-up face." That being said I'm not even sure where to begin in cleaning it up, but that is just terrible. 142.161.57.230 15:45, 4 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
