British?[edit]

AFAICT, this term is little-used in the United States – I recently heard it in England, but have never heard it in the US, hence I’ve marked it as “British”.

Is it used in Ireland/Canada/Oz/NZ/SA/India/Singapore/etc.?

Tholin[edit]

There's a "Can we date this quote?" attached to the New Scientist quote about tholins. Google Books has that issue - it was that of the 11th of January 1979, in a story titled "Grains between the stars account for spectra". There's no byline.

Wikipedia's reference for the term is to the original paper (this template doesn't seem to work here, so i've quoted it):

{{cite journal| title =Tholins: organic chemistry of interstellar grains and gas|first1=Carl |last1=Sagan |author1-link=Carl Sagan |first2=Bishun |last2=Khare |author2-link=Bishun Khare|last-author-amp=yes |doi=10.1038/277102a0 |journal=Nature |volume =277 |issue= 5692 |date= 11 January 1979 |pages =102–107 |bibcode = 1979Natur.277..102S }}.
