Dear Connel MacKenzie, you were not paying close enough attention before you reverted my edits[edit]
All due respect—I know that you are a leading editor on Wiktionary. But there are problems with the way that you reverted my contributions twice by calling them AHD copyvios, when they are not:
- You must not have actually looked at AHD4's entry for hob before you incorrectly accused me of copying it. If you actually look at it, you will see that I did not copy it and it is different. A hob is the cutter for hobbing. My def that I wrote may be something similar to how AHD4 said it, but that's simply because that's what the thing is. How can I say it much different from that?
- You added an {{obsolete}} tag to gear-cutting senses that are not obsolete. I don't get the impression that you actually know much about gear-cutting or hobbing, yet (a) you falsely accused me of copyvio from AHD, a dictionary that I love, own 3 of the 4 editions of, and would not STEAL from, and (b) you introduced errors into Wiktionary by reverting correct info about topics that you don't know much about.
- You removed the links to the Wikipedia articles on Gear cutting and hobbing. This makes no sense. Are you saying that those articles can't be linked here because they themselves are copied from AHD? AHD isn't an encyclopedia at all.
- I suspect that you may now keep reverting my corrections simply because you'll be mad at me for pointing these things out—not because my contributions to this project are wrong (they're NOT). If that happens, it will be a loss to the project.

THIS IS NOT AN EDIT; IT IS AN ADDITION. I did not see a way to add to the discussion other than the "edit" icon.
I added a definition to the list of meanings for "hob:" a stake used in the game of quoits.
That additional definition was removed without explanation. I get the impression that there is a stupid editor at large.
UPDATE: Well, that was fast. A few minutes after I posted the above ADDITION, a definition popped up that covers the meaning for "hob" that I previously added. It takes a gripe to get things done, apparently. But the result is what matters. :)
suggestion: check your links. The link to "quoits" in the definition for "hob" does not go to a definition of the game of quoits.

suggestion: Include a pronounciation guide in the entry for "quoits," since the predominant pronounciation is not as spelled.
does hob mean burner or the whole stovetop?[edit]
i always assumed it meant an individual burner .... not a word that Americans use all that much, but everytime I've heard it used, it was clear from the context that that's what was meant. i could probably find a few use examples for it .... I dont know if my idea is US-specific or not, but Im pretty confident that it isnt just all a mistake on my part. —Soap— 10:20, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
